my blogs got hacked

A couple of days ago, 3 of my blogs got hacked.

My Pink Notes, Vienna Lopez, and Bizarre Marriage were all showing a message from the hacker. I can’t load a page and I can’t even log in to my dashboard.

I needed two consecutive nights to work on them. Right now, they are okay again but there are still some things to be fixed. The themes being used now, for instance, are new ones. I had to download fresh copies of them and of course I need to customize them again (I am still not done with this task).

It was a disaster.

First, I had to weed out suspicious files from my server but that didn’t work. I tried a lot of workarounds but none worked so in the end, I decided to completely install a fresh new copy of WordPress.

I really can’t understand the stupid people behind these attacks.

Why?

Do they get money from it? I don’t think so.

Fun? What a stupid way to have fun!

Unfortunately for me, I had to do the work. I am actually sleep-deprived for two nights already because of this.

Ohhh… the work!

Backing up data bases, backing up core files, deleting old wordpress files and uploading a fresh copy, creating new databases and importing the content of the old ones, downloading fresh copies of themes, uploading and installing these themes,  uploading core files (containing images), uploading plugins, etc, etc… !

And we are talking about THREE blogs!

Imagine my confusion! I hardly remember which database is for which blog and oh, all the passwords and usernames-I had to change and remember them all. (I am still having troubles with the “remembering” part).

I really hope that this thing doesn’t happen to me again otherwise I might consider giving up blogging completely. I can’t do that kind of work again. I mean, really.

on editing…

I was just rereading some of my previous posts across all of my blogs and… ish! I really should learn how to edit my work before clicking on that “publish” button. Some mistakes I always commit are wrong grammar, redundant words, missing words or letters, wrong or missing punctuation, and of course misspelled words.

I write my entries on Microsoft Word first so there shouldn’t be excuses for misspelled words but well, I think I have the knack of ignoring underlined words. This and some minor mistakes are because of carelessness and the major ones are due to my limited knowledge of English.

I do read my posts before I publish them but I suppose the problem is that I just wrote them and they’re still in my head. Some good writers suggest that you should do your editing at least a day after the writing. In this way your mind is sort of refreshed and therefore, it will see mistakes better.

Thing is, I don’t exactly have the luxury of not publishing my post immediately after writing them because I always feel that my blogs are screaming for posts and that they’ll die if I deny them another day of updating them.

This post, like many others, will be posted a minute after I decided that it is done. I most probably have a lot of mistakes again… I know… but… well, I will try harder to be better at editing next time.

theme improvement

It’s a gloomy Saturday morning here and although it seems to be such a gooooood time to stay in bed and have a prolonged sleep, I decided to get out of bed. The only explanation to this is I’m probably out of my mind. So anyway, I didn’t like to waste my effort getting up early so I did something useful. I changed my theme’s color.

With hubby’s help, I am able to change the color of my current theme. I am not a Photoshop pro so the simple job of changing the colors took me about 2 hours but I am quite proud of myself.

This is how it looked like before.

vienspot

There’s nothing wrong with it except that it is sooo… manly so I decided to change it to red and pink to show a woman’s touch. What do you think? Better?

first entry

Hello, welcome to my yet another blog! (I just can’t stop, can I?)

You probably know me from my other blogs and you probably know that I tried to cut down on my blogging a few months back just to find myself creating another one now. It’s totally crazy if you ask me.

I know (and my husband so often points out) that I am addicted to blogging. But why not? It is fun and it brings some nice benefits too.*wink

So , why Vien’s Pot?

Well, I liked it more to call this blog Vien’s Spot but that’s just too much “s” on the domain name (viensspot.com) so Vien’s Pot it is. I wanted a name that will imply that this blog is not just about one thing because this blog will be talking about anything I deem worthy of my interest (hehe).

And the theme?

I like this theme. Not my first choice but I decided to settle for it (for now). Thing is, there are a lot of wonderful girly themes in EZWPthemes.com but the problem is that none of them is easy to customize. So I decided to use this theme by Web-Kreation. It is simple, clean, and most importantly, it is easy to work with it. I’ll probably change the color though when I’ve got the time.

So, there!

Cheers to this new blog!
