starting a routine

I should start blogging again because there’s a lot of things that happened already and if I don’t write about them soon, I might completely forget them. In fact, I think I already forgot plenty of them.

As many of you know, it’s been a month since I gave birth and I am dying to blog about the development of my son and my new life as a mom. Unfortunately though, I am not blessed with time. It’s really different if you have a baby. Your time is not your own anymore.

I am not complaining. Being a mom and having a baby is the most wonderful thing that happened to me aside from meeting and later, marrying the man of my dreams. If I would live my life twice, I’d live it the same way.

Back to blogging. I did read the blogs I follow during the entire time of my absence but when it comes to updating my own blogs, I failed. So right now, I am trying to pick up my blogging routine, or rather start a new one that is in compliance to my baby’s time. I hope I can cope soon.

I would like to be able to update each of my blogs once a week. I think, that would be possible if things ease up a bit around here. Difficult. But possible. If only there’s just the baby to think of, I think I can update my blogs more often because at this point of my baby’s life, he’s just sleeping most of the time. But there are house chores to think of and of course, there’s an endless line of visitors who would like to see our little emperor. It could get really hectic around here.

I hope that the news about us having a baby will become old news soon because that will mean less visitors, more time for other things.

getting organized

Happy New Year!

And because it is New Year, it’s time for some New Year’s resolutions. I don’t have much because I have a very good habit of not sticking to them.LOL! I still want to have New Year’s resolutions though and I “try” to accomplish them.

And since I decided to do blogging full time this year, one of my resolutions is to organize my blogs. It’s really time to decide which post goes to which blog. This blog will then be more about home, home development, home chores, home appliances, and anything about managing a home and being a full time housewife. My Pink Notes will be more about my girly, crazy, and over the top thoughts about some silly and random things that catch my attention.

Second thing is to own a MAC. It’s about time to get myself one and I am going to get one by hook or by crook. LOL! I hope I can get one soon. I haven’t decided yet as to what kind of Mac to buy. One part of me says I should get a desktop first because that’s much better for working at home in my home office. Then later, get a Macbook air for work-on-the-go stuff. Another part of me says I should just get a Macbook Pro because I can’t be really sure when will I get enough money to buy myself a Macbook Air. A Macbook Pro would be my work station at home and at the same time, I can take it with me anywhere. Sigh* I’d go for the first option if I had that much money… but right now… that’s just pushing it too hard.

The third resolution is a driving force why I want to have the second one. You see, it’s my long time dream to be able to design my own WordPress theme and although I can do it with Windows, I want to learn it on a Mac because most of the web designers I know own a Mac and they all say that it is much better designing on a Mac.

I will start slowly with my third resolution. First, I would have to enhance my knowledge of Photoshop by doing digital book scrapping and logo designing. I hope that when I am good at it already, I can get some jobs from a logo design company to sort of finance this venture then afterwards, I will learn PHP and CSS. I know it sounds so big and honestly speaking, it kind of scares me too but I am up for the challenge. I just hope though that that universe will cooperate. :)

welcome me back to blogging

I will try to slowly go back to blogging since I sort of left my teaching job already. I say “sort of” because I am not technically “resigned” yet but I gave up almost all of my classes already. I kept one class and that’s just an hour each week.

So I have plenty of time at home again. I should be relaxing and not worrying about earning money but blogging is a good way to relax for me. During weekdays, I am alone at home so I don’t really have somebody to talk to. I go out every now and then with friends but since it’s winter and I hate cold temperatures, my going-out-with-friends lessened. I’d rather stay home where it’s warm and cozy.

Right now, I am looking at my options. Should I continue with paid blogging or should I just go for freelance writing?

I think I’ll do both. I started applying for freelance writing jobs at Odesk last week and I am glad I immediately got one. It pays 7$/hr. I wish it pays more but I am just glad I got that job. It’ll help me start again. I wish though that I can offer more services. I wish I can offer website designing or logo designing because it looks like website designers and logo designers can demand a bit more money for their work. There are a lot of writers out there already and a lot of them offer pretty cheap rates for their work so with writing, it is really very competitive. It’s hard to find buyers who’ll bite 7$/hr so I am really glad I found one.

pre-summer plans

It’s the start of my summer break and I am glad that finally, I can just relax and do things according to my own pace. We have some summer holiday plans but nothing concrete yet. My husband has to work another week before his 3-weeks leave.

So I have a week to myself and in this week I plan to do some revamping on my sites.

1. BizarreMarriage.com needs an author page. I would like to have a page dedicated to my contributing authors (Ruthi and Lamielle). It would make the site a bit more professional. I also plan to update that blog since it’s been months since my last update.

2. ViennaLopez.com, She-Teaches.com, and MyPinkNotes.com also need updates so I plan to write a series of blog posts for those blogs.

3. A new photo blog. Yep. I would like to create a photo blog. I actually have the domain already. I got it about a month ago but the site is still empty. I still have to decide which template to use, etc . So it will still take a lot of work.

In this week, I also plan to do some house chores on the side (like ironing and cleaning/reorganizing the basement).

I don’t’ know if I can accomplish all those things in a week but I have to if I want them done because when my husband gets his leave, I am sure that he’ll demand complete attention from me. :-)

where to look for wp themes

One of the many woes of bloggers is finding perfect wordpress templates for their blogs. Personally, I am having a hard time choosing the right one from hundreds and hundreds of wordpress themes out there. It takes me a few tries before settling down with a wordpress theme I really like.

A good website resource for free wordpress themes is WPRex.com. They have the latest free wordpress themes and you can just download the themes without going through an annoying registration process.

So if you are still looking for “the” theme that fits your blog, go take a look at WPRex. With their wide collection of wp themes, you’ll definitely find the one which suits your blog and your taste.

sick and blogging

Bronchitis or acute infection of the lungs is what I have now. I suspect it is because I’ve been exposed to dust and fumes of harmful cleaning chemicals in the last few days. It started with a throat irritation. I didn’t give it a thought because I was quite sure it will go away soon. Then the coughing came. I tried some home remedies first but when the painful dry coughs and the harsh voice came, I went to see the doctor.  I was then told that I have bronchitis and that I have to take antibiotics along with two other medicines (for the coughing and for the phlegm). The doctor also told me that I have to make sure that there’s enough humidity in my room because enough humidity will help ease the dry coughing.

One cool thing about being sick is that I get to stay at home. I can forget about my job for a while and just relax and do what I want to do. I don’t really feel weak and I also don’t have a fever. Except for the extremely harsh voice and the coughing, I am fine. I can walk around and do some house chores. In fact, I just continued cleaning the basement. We have our new wooden floor and our new tiles already and I want to keep them clean so that means, I also have to make the basement dust free otherwise, we will just bring the dust up from our frequent visit to the basement.

Now, I decided to stop with the cleaning. I will continue again tomorrow if I am in the mood. It is almost 5pm and soon, my husband will be home. I will use this short time to blog because I really miss blogging. It’s been weeks! It’s quite annoying because it is not like I have nothing to blog about. I actually want to blog about a lot of things but I always don’t have the time.

So now that I am sick, I will try to blog my heart out until I feel well again. :-)

my blogs got hacked

A couple of days ago, 3 of my blogs got hacked.

My Pink Notes, Vienna Lopez, and Bizarre Marriage were all showing a message from the hacker. I can’t load a page and I can’t even log in to my dashboard.

I needed two consecutive nights to work on them. Right now, they are okay again but there are still some things to be fixed. The themes being used now, for instance, are new ones. I had to download fresh copies of them and of course I need to customize them again (I am still not done with this task).

It was a disaster.

First, I had to weed out suspicious files from my server but that didn’t work. I tried a lot of workarounds but none worked so in the end, I decided to completely install a fresh new copy of WordPress.

I really can’t understand the stupid people behind these attacks.

Why?

Do they get money from it? I don’t think so.

Fun? What a stupid way to have fun!

Unfortunately for me, I had to do the work. I am actually sleep-deprived for two nights already because of this.

Ohhh… the work!

Backing up data bases, backing up core files, deleting old wordpress files and uploading a fresh copy, creating new databases and importing the content of the old ones, downloading fresh copies of themes, uploading and installing these themes,  uploading core files (containing images), uploading plugins, etc, etc… !

And we are talking about THREE blogs!

Imagine my confusion! I hardly remember which database is for which blog and oh, all the passwords and usernames-I had to change and remember them all. (I am still having troubles with the “remembering” part).

I really hope that this thing doesn’t happen to me again otherwise I might consider giving up blogging completely. I can’t do that kind of work again. I mean, really.

on editing…

I was just rereading some of my previous posts across all of my blogs and… ish! I really should learn how to edit my work before clicking on that “publish” button. Some mistakes I always commit are wrong grammar, redundant words, missing words or letters, wrong or missing punctuation, and of course misspelled words.

I write my entries on Microsoft Word first so there shouldn’t be excuses for misspelled words but well, I think I have the knack of ignoring underlined words. This and some minor mistakes are because of carelessness and the major ones are due to my limited knowledge of English.

I do read my posts before I publish them but I suppose the problem is that I just wrote them and they’re still in my head. Some good writers suggest that you should do your editing at least a day after the writing. In this way your mind is sort of refreshed and therefore, it will see mistakes better.

Thing is, I don’t exactly have the luxury of not publishing my post immediately after writing them because I always feel that my blogs are screaming for posts and that they’ll die if I deny them another day of updating them.

This post, like many others, will be posted a minute after I decided that it is done. I most probably have a lot of mistakes again… I know… but… well, I will try harder to be better at editing next time.
